Girl Scouts to make presentation to Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus

Wednesday, Girl Scouts Helen and Marie, will attend a briefing of the Congressional Asian American Caucus on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. to represent Girl Scouts and inform the Caucus members of the impact Girl Scouts have on the community.

The girls, who are twin sisters, will present their Girl Scout Gold Award projects, which focus on helping local Burmese-Chin refugee children learn English and American culture and customs so that they may better adapt to their new community. Working with the International Rescue Committee, a nonprofit organization that provides support to refugees, the girls will deliver their projects, entitled “Bridging Cultures” and “English Kids 2 Kids,” at a four week summer camp.

“I feel really honored that we’ve been asked to represent Girl Scouts, as well as the International Rescue Committee at this event,” Helen said.

“It really is a privilege,” Marie added. “Kids our age usually don’t get to do things like this and I’m really happy that Girl Scouts is giving us this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Stay tuned for more coverage of the girls’ experience at the briefing.
