Submit Your Work for the Kris Dunbar Nature Art Center’s First Annual Nature Art Exhibition

We want to exhibit YOUR nature art!

The Kris Dunbar Nature Art Center (KDNAC) is hosting its First Annual Nature Art Exhibition at the BIG Outdoors Event on Sunday, April 23, 2017, 10am – 3pm, at Girl Scout Camp Ilchester, Ellicott City, Maryland.

This is a non-juried art exhibition. There will be no judging of any pieces exhibited. Girl Scouts and members of the public are invited to view the nature artwork displayed during this exhibition.

This exhibit invites Girl Scout artists to create their own interpretations of nature in any or all of the following four categories:

  1. The Face of Nature: Imagine how your face or the face(s) of other people would look if some of the features were replaced by elements from nature. For example, hair replaced by leaves, pine needles, seeds or even the entire canopy of a tree or forest; nuts, shells, stones, leaves or others as eyes, nose, lips, or ears. Your entry could be a collage using found materials from nature. Alternatively, you may wish to paint or “Photoshop” your nature-face. Sculpture may work well in this category. This is open to your interpretation as to how to create your submission.
  2. Passage of Time: Portray the same location or object/group at different times. For instance, a favorite tree during each of the four seasons. Maybe a snowman from creation through final melt down. Choice of media and technique is entirely at your discretion.
  3. Pollinator Pop Art: This year’s BIG Outdoors Event theme is pollinators. Show us your vision of pollinators working, living, playing using pop art forms such as anime, manga, cartoon, comic book, exaggeration, and so on. This should be loads of fun!
  4. Girl Scouts’ Art in the Outdoors: Show us what you produced while earning the Art in the Outdoors badge for your level. Any and ALL art created in support of earning the badges in this series will be accepted.

Eligibility: Currently registered Girl Scouts of all ages, youth through adult, working in all media.

Venue: This exhibit will be located in the Board Room of the Clementine Peterson Activity Center at Girl Scout Camp Ilchester for the duration of the 2017 BIG Outdoors Event. The space is small and we would like to display as many pieces as possible. Space permitting, we intend to exhibit all appropriate submissions. KDNAC reserves the right to determine the appropriateness of individual submissions.

Entry Rules and Guidelines: Please click here for complete entry rules and guidelines.

Photo Release: KDNAC has no permanent exhibition space. By submitting your artwork to this exhibition, you agree to permit KDNAC to photograph your artwork and display it on KDNAC’s online art gallery website.

The BIG Outdoors Event, Sunday, April 23, 2017, is fast approaching. Now is the time to get started creating your nature art submissions. If you have already completed pieces that fit into any or all of the four categories, now is the time to ready them for exhibition. We look forward to sharing your artwork in-person with our BIG Outdoors Event attendees in April and online with the world afterward.
