Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

HispanicHeritageMonth_largeAs Hispanic Heritage month comes to a close at the end of this week, we thought this was a perfect time to talk about GSCM’s Hispanic Initiative and to thank some of our program partners for helping us expand our footprint in local Latino communities in central Maryland.

GSCM provides In-School programming in Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties, including John Ruhrah Elementary Middle, Highlandtown, Patterson High School Pa’Lante, Commodore John Rogers Elementary School and Holabird Elementary School.  Girls engage in self-esteem, financial literacy and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) activities.  In addition, girls in these communities attended GSCM’s Spring Break Camp at Patterson Park and Summer Day Camp.  BGE partnered with GSCM to provide the College and Career Bound program for middle and high school age girls. Our Quiero Mis Quince event was designed to increase girls’ financial literacy, event planning, and career planning skills.

We thank Somos Baltimore Latino, Mundo Latino, LPN, El Poder de Ser Mujer, EBLO, BioEYES, State Farm, The Featherstone Foundation Xios Events, Project WET, University of Baltimore and Primerica for their program and financial support.
