Troop 10161 Visits with World Champion and Paralympian, Hannah McFadden

Troop 10161 recently had very special a surprise visitor: Hannah McFadden, 2x World Champion and 2x Paralympian and all-around G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™

Hannah is an elite athlete with a spirit to match; she’s is 2nd in the US and 4th in the world. At age 16, she was the youngest member of the U.S. Paralympic Track & Field Team at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

A former Girl Scout herself, Hannah achieved her Girl Scout Gold Award in her junior year of high school.

Born with a bone deformity in her left leg, Hannah is an above-the-knee amputee but she’s never let that stop her from achieving her dreams and living life to the fullest. Some of her hobbies include rock climbing, swimming, scuba diving, and skiing. While talking with the troop Hannah explained “Some say the glass is half full, some say the glass is half empty, I say are you going to drink that?”

During the visit Hannah talked to the girls about her trials and achievements, school and fitting in, and she even shared some official Olympic pins that athletes use as swaps at the games. The girls were both thrilled to meet with Hannah and inspired by her words of  encouragement and go-getter attitude.
