DWShadowHero-1Mentorship Opportunity for Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors

Girl Scouts of Central Maryland invites all Seniors and Ambassadors to apply to for a one-of-a-kind mentorship opportunity – the Distinguished Women’s Shadow program.

If selected, she’ll explore career interests and learn more about the female leadership experience with one of our 2019 Distinguished Woman honorees.

This year’s honorees include lawyers, philanthropists, a doctor, an executive from a global company and even a former CEO of Girl Scouts.

Over the years many Distinguished Women Honorees and Shadow Girls have developed long-term mentor-mentee relationships, providing a source of support as you navigate college and careers. Former Shadow Girls are now pursuing careers in medicine, law, and marketing, and value the experience they had through this program.

“While I am not thinking of going into law at this moment, I will always keep an open mind to any career path…You never know where life may take you.” – 2018 Shadow Girl Scout”

Click here for more information and to apply. Deadline to apply is January 4, 2019!

Girl Scouts Helps Families Remain Close Despite Prison Bars

ABC’s “Good Morning America” featured a heartwarming story this month about GSCM’s Girl Scouts Beyond Bars program. The story focused primarily on one family and how a Girl Scout has grown and thrived because the Beyond Bars program helps her get the nurturing she needs from her mother. For more than 25 years, troop meetings held at the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women have helped girls and their incarcerated mothers maintain the bonds of family.

It’s not too late to get organized with the Volunteer Toolkit!

The Volunteer Toolkit (VTK) contains program and meeting plans for Daisy through Ambassador and multi-level troops!

For troop leaders, it takes the guesswork out of planning and prepping for your troop meetings and makes communication and staying organized seamless.

New to VTK, participated in the webinar tonight. Went great, will be recommending the tool and webinar to others. Thank you for doing this event. I’m a leader to 7th graders, wish this would have been around years ago. Will be showing it to the girls and parents in my troop too.

– Julia K., GSCM Volunteer

Want to learn more about the Volunteer Toolkit?

Join us for an Introduction to Volunteer Toolkit (VTK) for Troop Leaders and Co-Leaders. Thursday, January 31st at 7:00 pm to 8 pm. Register here. In the meantime, don’t be afraid to dive in! Go to http://www.gscm.org and click on My GS to log in.

Great Cookie Dash Update

GSCM is proud to announce 165 troops earned the Great Cookie Dash this year. These troops received their initial orders and “dashed” to sell them all and replace them in just 3 weeks. The girls and adults worked hard to set up booths and deliver pre-ordered cookies to their customers. Many troops also used this opportunity to increase their per box proceeds by doubling their sales. Way to go girls!

Great Cookie Dash Troops will receive customized patches in the mail with instructions on how to pick-up your wagon from the Council office.

2019 Cookie Pro Contest Coming in January

Girl Scouts and the inspiring DC Super Hero Girls™ are teaming up to give girls the Cookie Entrepreneur Experience of a lifetime, including a trip to sunny California; she can share her unique cookie story for a chance to win—and unlock a special patch!
