Color Guard Needed for Two Upcoming Events
Girl Scout Color Guards are needed on March 28th for a book talk with Elaine Weiss, author of The Woman’s Hour at the Maryland Historical Society, from 6-8 pm. Doors open at 6 pm and the book talk begins at 6:30 pm. Girl Scouts are invited to stay for the program which will talk about one of the greatest political battles in American history: the ratification of the constitutional amendment that granted women the right to vote. Refreshments and book signing follows the talk. Come and enjoy the inspiring story of activists winning their own freedom. All are welcome.
Girl Scout Color Guards are also needed on Wednesday, April 10th at 8:00 am for GSUSA’s CEO Conference at Baltimore’s Sheraton downtown. This is an opportunity to open the conference attended by Girl Scout CEOs from across the country. Girls will be able to return to school after the flag ceremony.
Specific details and information for the day will be provided.
Interested Girl Scout Color Guards for both events should email Danita Terry, dterry@gscm.org.

Girl Scout Week is less than a month away!
Calling all girls, parents, volunteers, alumni, and staff! We invite you to join us in celebrating National Girl Scout Week!
Girl Scout Week (March 10-16) is a time to celebrate Girl Scouts as groundbreakers, big thinkers, and role models. This guide offers ideas for girls to choose their own way to be a G.I.R.L. (Go-Getter, Innovator, Risk-Taker, Leader)™ during this important week focused on Girl Scouts!
Celebrate with us by showing your Girl Scout spirit and pride on a daily basis during this week. Each day features a special theme along with suggested ways to participate. Activities may be done on one’s own, as a family, and/or as a group or troop. Below is an overview of each day.
Sunday, March 10, 2019: Girl Scout Sunday
Girl Scout Sunday provides girls an opportunity to attend their place of worship and be recognized as Girl Scouts. |
Monday, March 11, 2019: Go-Getter
A Go-Getter is bold, honest, and determined to succeed. In her mind failure is no reason not to get back up and try again, and again, and again. Today, bring your Go-Getter self to the forefront by learning a new skill. |
Tuesday, March 12, 2019: Girl Scouts Birthday
Today Girl Scouts celebrates our 107th birthday! On this day in 1912, Juliette ‘Daisy’ Gordon Low assembled a group of eighteen girls from Savannah, Georgia for the first ever Girl Scout troop meeting. Today wear your favorite Girl Scout apparel to school and/or when out and about in your community! |
Wednesday, March 13, 2019: Innovator
Thinking outside the box is an Innovator’s specialty, so she’s always looking for a creative way to take action. She definitely knows how to get things done. Today it’s time to get innovative by trying a hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activity. |
Thursday, March 14, 2019: Risk-Taker
Courageous and strong, a Risk-Taker’s keen to try new things and to embrace the unfamiliar. She’s ready to step up and break the mold if that’s what it takes. Today’s challenge is to try something new. |
Friday, March 15, 2019: Leader
A Leader is confident, responsible, and committed to changing the world for the better—and she’s happiest when others join her in taking the lead! Take the lead today by organizing a community service project (i.e. a project that helps solve an immediate need, but doesn’t necessarily impact the root cause of an issue) or a Take Action Project (i.e. seek to eliminate the need altogether). |
Saturday, March 16, 2019: Girl Scout Sabbath
Girl Scout Sabbath provides girls an opportunity to attend their place of worship and be recognized as Girl Scouts. |
Showcase your participation by sharing the activities you did each day with us on social media! Here are links to our social pages and the hashtag we’ll be using:

Each day, we will select at random, five members (could be girl members or adult members) to receive a Girl Scout Week Patch. Winners will be notified by email and their patch will be mailed to their home.
In addition to the daily activities, we invite you to join us at Juliette’s Closet to learn the Girl Scout Promise and Law in sign language and to learn about the history behind sign language from The Hearing and Speech Agency.

Get More out of the Volunteer Toolkit!
If you haven’t taken the dive into the VTK yet, now is the perfect time to get started! Our latest webinar has helped many volunteers get more out of their experience. In fact, 100% of volunteers that responded to the post-webinar survey said they found the webinar to be very helpful. Over 80% said they plan to use the VTK more as a result of their newly gained knowledge.
If you missed it, that’s ok! You can watch the recording here or join us in April for a live webinar. Date and time will be announced soon!
Book Talk: East Coast Road Trippin’
Recently featured in the Capital Gazette and on WJZ, Girl Scout Cadettes, Lexie, Kendall, and Tori will talk to us about their Silver Award project – a published book called “East Coast Road Trippin”. This is a story about three best friends who plan their summer vacation together – a road trip along the East Coast in an RV. Along the way, the besties in the story are faced with issues that have serious impacts on their friendships. The book brings to light tough issues girls face daily relating to friendship, bullying, jealousy and peer pressure.
Find out how the authors were inspired by the aMaze journey and decided to take a step further to make it a Silver Award project.
Autographed copies of the book and custom patches will be available for purchase at the event.
