Ask Congress to Support Girl Scouts’ 107th Birthday Resolution
On March 12, H.Res.217 was introduced in Congress by Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) to celebrate the 107th anniversary of Girl Scouts, the preeminent leadership development organization for girls in the world.
You can help us commemorate our anniversary by urging your member of Congress to cosponsor the resolution honoring Girl Scouts and recognizing the importance of the all-girl space.
On March 12, 1912, the Girl Scout Movement began in Savannah, Georgia. It was initiated by Juliette Gordon Low, whose life mission was to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. Girl Scouts unleashes the G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader )™ in every girl, preparing her for a lifetime of leadership. Over 50 million women alive today were Girl Scouts in their youth-including 60 percent of women in the current Congress and every female secretary of state in U.S. history.
Take action now by joining us in sending a message to your representative that urges them to sign on to legislation that will honor Girl Scouts and our 107-year legacy.
Cookies from the Heart
Our Girl Scouts did a great job collecting donated boxes of Cookies for Girl Scouts of Central Maryland’s 2019 Cookies from the Heart campaign. This season, 2,347 cases of Girl Scout Cookies were delivered to various charitable organizations, military installations, and first responders. That is a year-over-year increase of 4,200 boxes. Way to GO Girl Scouts!

Calling all young entrepreneurs!
BizKidz Academy Young Entrepreneur Series begins March 30. Don’t miss your opportunity to receive real training in how to start or grow your own business. This 4- week series will cover topics like goal setting, research and development, safe online marketing, and money management. The program will end with a real live business expo where you can earn money by selling your products to visitors to the event! Participants will have the opportunity to visit Comcast for a studio production tour and taping and be included in Baltimore’s Child Magazine’s blog articles.

Longtime Staffer Elise Highsmith Retires
March 1st marked the first day of retirement for membership staffer, Elise Highsmith. After serving as a volunteer for both of her daughters’ Girl Scout troops, she began working for the council where she helped recruit girls and assisted volunteers in Baltimore and Harford counties. Elise is highly respected and admired because she approached her job with dedication and compassion: she was a sister to every Girl Scout; was responsible for what she said and did and, believed in the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Elise plans to rest a bit before going on a trip to the Galapagos Islands in June with a Harford County travel group. A retirement celebration for her is planned in Harford County for April 14th.
