Girl Scouts of Central Maryland
Girl Scouts of Central Maryland is an inclusive organization dedicated to the growth and empowerment of all girls so they become confident, courageous, strong and successful women. With a personal commitment to purposeful interaction between girls, volunteers, staff and board members, we are able to provide a girl-centered program grounded by the Girl Scout mission and Promise and Law. We will empower girls to face and meet new challenges, develop their self-esteem, create opportunties for self-actualization, and value and learn from diverse experiences and relationships. Girls will be encouraged to explore the world and appreciate other cultures. Working together with volunteers and corporate partners GSCM will continue to enhance our visibility in the community, realizing that public financial support is crucial to fulfilling our mission.
Girl Scouts of Central Maryland serves 30,000 girls in 2,053 troops and groups in Baltimore City, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties with the help of nearly10,000 dedicated and committed adult volunteers.

October 27, 2012—Girl Scout Beyond Bars troops 7140 and 7856 unveiled their banner exhibit called “Our Hopes and Dreams for the Future” at the Baltimore Circuit County Court. The project—a series of banners—was created by the troop’s members under the direction of Hannah Brancato, a community artist. Broadneck Patch reports that Girl Scout Troop 1832 unveiled a quilt they created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts of the USA and the 50th anniversary of Girl Scouts of Central Maryland. Two hundred and twenty girls from Service Unit 44 worked on the quilt, which will be on display at the Broadneck library throughout March, according to the article. Girl Scout Troop 4503 dedicated their Girl Scout Bronze Award project to collecting trash along Triadelphia Road, Explore Howard County reported. Girl Scout Troop 1667 continued their five-year tradition of donating Christmas stockings to the Salvation Army, the Perry Hall Patch reported. What started out as a group of 18 girls who met regularly to learn about the outdoors and their surroundings evolved in to a movement that brought girls of all backgrounds together to develop self-reliance and resourcefulness. Girl Scout Alexandra LaPierre was named the Capital’s Teen of the Week for her Girl Scout Gold Award project–a rain garden on the grounds of her high school. Girl Scout Samantha Smith shaved her head in a public ceremony to show her support for pediatric cancer research, the Capital reported. Girl Scout troop 1832 crafted a quilt to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts, the Broadneck Patch reports. The troop hosted a “quilt-in” so area Girl Scouts could participate by creating quilt squares. Junior Girl Scout Troop 1402 received their Girl Scout Bronze Award for their project to purchase books about inspiring women for the Prettyboy Elementary School library, the Columbia Flier reported. The APG News reported that new Girl Scout troops were forming on Aberdeen Proving Ground. The effort to form new troops was led by Annie Brock, a lifetime Girl Scout and president of the installation’s Military, Civilian and Spouses’ Club. Girl Scout Natalee Huber has worked hard to fundraise for children with leukemia and had formed her own charitable organization, Natalee’s Song, when she learned a good friend and fellow troop member, Rachel Reynolds, had been diagnosed with leukemia, the Severna Park Voice reported. Natalee’s Song formed Team Rachel to support Reynolds. About 150 students learned how to recognize the signs of bullying at P.A.V.E. (Project Anti-Violence Education) Camp at Camp Woodlands in Annapolis, the Capital reported. Three members of Girl Scout Troop 1929 earned their Girl Scout Silver Award for their project, “Be Cool: Recycool” the Howard County Times reported. Girl Scout troop 2399 in Severna Park held a fashion show to raise money for the Girl Scouts of Japan relief effort and collect donations for the SPAN food pantry, the Capital reported. Girl Scout Brownie Troop 2013 worked to expand Monsignor Slade Catholic School’s recycling program as part of the It’s Your World – Change it! Journey, the Maryland Gazette reported. Crofton Girl Scout troop 1551 sweetened the welcome-home celebration for U.S. soldiers returning from their tours of duty, the Capital reported. The Baltimore Beacon profiled two Girl Scout alumni who are active volunteers, Roberta Dorsch and Pat Disharoon. Both were active Girl Scouts growing up, volunteered as troop leaders for their daughters’ troops and have continued to volunteer with the GSCM Council. The Record reported that three state legislators proposed bills to secure funding to renovate the water system at Girl Scouts of Central Maryland’s Camp Conowingo.
