GSCM Vice President and Board Chair Named in Maryland’s Top 100 Women

Girl Scouts of Central Maryland Vice President of Advancement Maria Johnson and Founder and President of the Murthy Law Firm and Chair of the GSCM Board Sheela Murthy were named in Maryland’s Top 100 Women by the Daily Record. Girl Scouts Teams Up with Earth Hour

Earlier today, Girl Scouts of the USA announced a collaboration with Earth Hour to  increase environmental education, awareness and action. Since its inception, Earth Hour has encouraged individuals, businesses and governments to turn off non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one designated hour each year as a symbolic gesture to raise awareness of the need to take action on climate change. Former Girl Scouts Return as Volunteers

The Baltimore Beacon profiled two Girl Scout alumni who are active volunteers, Roberta Dorsch and Pat Disharoon. Both were active Girl Scouts growing up, volunteered as troop leaders for their daughters’ troops and have continued to volunteer with the GSCM Council. Girls Rock 1st Mariner for World Thinking Day

More than 1,000 Girl Scouts, friends and family filled 1st Mariner Arena on Sunday to celebrate World Thinking Day, an annual Girl Scout event where girls participate in activities, games, and projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries. This year’s theme, Empowering Girls Will Change Our World, was showcased in several performances and displays about different cultures and countries, which also showed how girls live in different parts of the world. Water system to be renovated at Girl Scouts camp?

The Record reported that three state legislators proposed bills to secure funding to renovate the water system at Girl Scouts of Central Maryland’s Camp Conowingo. Camp Conowingo had an aged water distribution system throughout the entire camp. With the secured funding over 8,000 feet of pipe was installed in Spring 2012 feeding every camp unit and building. GSCM Partners with Vehicles for Change

GSCM and Vehicles for Change (VFC) are teaming up to raise funds to enrich the programs and experiences that Girl Scouts offer young women while simultaneously helping low-income families obtain reliable transportation.Vehicles for Change is a nonprofit organization that refurbishes and provides donated vehicles to low-wage families for employment purposes. VFC exists so worthy families can achieve financial and personal independence that comes from owning a vehicle. In many cases, single-mothers are the beneficiaries of the program. Troop 1231 Volunteers at American Council of the Blind Regional Convention

Over the weekend,  Ambassador Troop 1231 from Crofton volunteered at the American Council of the Blind Mid-Atlantic Affiliates’ Regional Convention at the BWI Airport Marriott in Baltimore.
