Hello, my name is Stephanie and I am the new STEM Specialist at GSCM. If you and your girls like robots, stars and planets, gross squishy things, or just having fun–you’ll get to know me very well. I will be coordinating many of the science, technology and engineering programs GSCM hosts throughout the year including First Lego League RoboGirls, Lady EinSTEMS, Girls Go Techbridge, and Chemistry in the Kitchen. I am bringing lots of new ideas to GSCM so be sure to keep your eye out for new and exciting STEM programs, as well as some old favorites.
I am a strong supporter of women in STEM and want to inspire the next generation of women STEM professionals. I first saw the importance of motivating girls and young women to pursue STEM when I was involved with the Women in Science and Engineering Honor’s Program at Stony Brook University in NY and now I pay-it-forward by making science accessible to young girls. As STEM Specialist I work everyday toward sparking a girl’s interest in science, technology and engineering, and I couldn’t think of a better job for me. I hope one day a girl can say that a GSCM STEM program helped her choose her career path, but whether or not she becomes an engineer or a doctor I am happy to provide girls with unique and engaging hands-on experiences.
I am excited to start this journey and share my passion for science with the central Maryland community. I am most looking forward to meeting all of the girls, volunteers, and parents that are already involved in our STEM programs, as well as some new faces! If you have ever been curious about the fun and crazy-looking things going on in the STEM Lab, now is the perfect time to get involved. For more information, email STEM@gscm.org. That’s all for now, thanks for welcoming me to the Girl Scout Family.
